SEO Strategies To Building A Network Marketing Lead List

By Luis Olivo

When I decided to promote my MLM business online two years ago and begin building my network marketing lead list, I thought all I had to do was create a web site with some content and traffic would eventually find me. The advice I give people today with that thought process is, “don’t hold your breath!” Back then I heard about SEO, search engine optimization, but it seemed so confusing and complex. Besides, wasn’t that only for the big websites? Needless to say I didn’t get much traffic to my site with the “build it and they will come” strategy. The little traffic I did get came from the links I managed to place in forums and a few directories and was not nearly sufficient for building a network marketing lead list. Then I thought I would try something different. There was a lot of buzz about a site called YouTube and I figured I would give it a try. I titled the video with the name of my MLM company I was with at the time followed by “business opportunity”. To my surprise, within the week I was ranked in the top four of Google on the first page for that keyword phrase. That was my first lesson in MLM SEO. Today things are much different as I am much more knowledgeable and proficient in SEO. I would like to share some of the lessons I have learned and hopefully help you get some results.

Search engine optimization strategies will not only help you achieve first page rankings, but also attract qualified traffic. The way we begin to do this is to first define your target market. Network marketers, business opportunity seekers, professionals looking for a career change, etc. What are the problems this market is trying to solve? Next, we must determine what keywords and keyword phrases your target market uses when searching for solutions to their problems. To do this requires tools to help you come up with ideas and determine if the keyword or phrase has enough traffic to make it worth the effort. Keywords are the foundation of you SEO strategy. Some basic mistakes that I see made are the lack of proper, or any keywords in website or content titles. Search engines look for relevant content when conducting a search on any given keyword, and consider the titles of web pages and other content to hold much weight. For example the title “Search Engine Optimization Strategies for Network Marketer’s” would connect you with your target market on search engines better than, “John’s Blog Post”, for the keyword phrase “Search Engine Optimization Strategies”.

Some tools to help you with keyword research are Google’s external keyword tool and wordtracker.com has a free online tool also. These tools will help you find relevant keywords and report the amount of times per month these keywords are searched. You will also want to know how competitive these keywords are. Using the main search page of Google.com, type in your keyword surrounded by “quotations”. This will give you the amount of sites competing for that word or phrase. When starting out, try to rank for keywords with 50,000 or less. Keywords with 15,000 sites or less should be a cakewalk for you.

So you now have a list of keywords and phrases that get a decent amount of search traffic and are not too competitive for a beginner. Now what? Choose the keyword phrase you like best and create original content around that phrase. The content can be a video or an article. Be original and creative as well as informative. You can do this with other content such as ebooks and power point slides, but videos and articles are the easiest to start off with. When posting this content to the web consider using a self hosted WordPress blog. A blog, specifically WordPress blogs, work well with Google and are typically ranked better and faster than other types of blogs. They are relatively easy to install and customize. Posting content to a blog is as easy as using email. Each time you post content on your blog, WordPress blog send out a “ping” or signal into the internet alerting search engines and sites looking to list content that you have a new post ready to be indexed or searched. Your original content needs to have your keyword phrase in the title and be worked into the description of your article or video and use relevant keyword tags.

This is the very basics of MLM SEO. But it is much more than what 95% of people posting content online are doing and will help you get on your way to building a network marketing lead list. Once you begin to understand these basics and implementing them, the next step is learning additional strategies to increase your traffic and rankings even further. But we will save that for another day. I hope you have learned something new in this article. Visit my site for more information. I look forward to connecting with you soon.
